ST. LOUIS (KMOX/AP) – A Fair St. Louis spokeswoman confirmed to KMOX that wing walker Jane Wicker was the performer killed in an airshow crash near Dayton, Ohio Saturday afternoon.

The spokeswoman also confirmed that Wicker was booked to appear at the upcoming Fair St. Louis airshow from July 4th through the 6th.

On her official Twitter page, Wicker tweeted June 6th: “New show added… Come see me hang by the Arch on the riverfront.”

WHIO-TV reporter Jessica Heffner attended Saturday’s Vectren Air Show and witnessed the crash of the Stearman biplane, “I looked up and saw the plane circling back around for one more pass in front of the crowd. The announcer said ‘Jane Wicker On Top of the World.’ She was waving at the crowd when suddenly the plane was inverted, made a sudden jerk to the left and smashed into the ground. It erupted into a huge fireball of flames and smoke.”

Ohio State Patrol Lt. Anne Ralston confirms two fatalities, “One of the aircraft at the air show did crash during a demonstration, killing both the pilot and a stunt person. The fortunate part is that no bystanders or anybody on the ground were injured as a result of the crash.”

The Federal Aviation Administration told the Associated Press that the World War II era aircraft was registered to Jane Wicker of Loudon, Virginia. She worked as a contract employee for the FAA as a budget analyst.

This statement was posted on the Jane Wicker Wingwalker Facebook page Saturday afternoon, “It is with sad hearts that we announce that Jane Wicker and Charlie Schwenker were tragically killed while performing at the Vectren Dayton Airshow. We ask for your prayers for the families and privacy of all involved and allow them time to grieve and work through these events.”
